Commercial scaffolding
Mid to long term projects that require large volume of material and progressive builds. Typically four storeys and up. We eat, sleep and breathe these projects, and pride ourselves on extensive knowledge in sequencing and compliance. We've been in the industry a long time and as a result have an arsenal of on-hand solutions to overcome most challenges your site will face.
Some items that we supply & install:
- Ground up scaffolding
- Stretcher stair access
- Crane-able stairs
- Hung stairs for basement excavations
- Falsework scaffolding
- Edge protection
- A-class hoardings
- B-class hoardings
- 10kPa overhead protection
- Temporary roofs
- Loading bays

Commercial work is four storeys and up, and it's the line we're built for.
The difference between a commercial scaffold that works and one that costs you is almost never the gear. It's whether somebody asked what else the scaffold has to do. A perimeter scaffold that suits the structure but not the renderers gets modified. A job with no crane access worked out gets its gear moved twice. A street frontage with no pedestrian allowance turns into a variation the week the hoarding goes up.
That's where the money goes on commercial jobs. Not the rate. The things nobody priced.
So we scope the whole job before you commit to a price. We ask who follows you, where the truck lands, what's overhead, whose footpath it is and when the program says each stage lands. Then we give you one number for the scope and a list of options underneath it, priced separately, so the decisions stay yours.
Enquire for tenders. Send us the drawings and we'll price them.
Who this is for
Apartment and unit builders..
Fast programs, staged trades and a scaffold that has to serve the structure, then the facade, then the finishing trades...
Head contractors..
You need the documentation right, the inductions done and a subcontractor who turns up when the program says so...
Estimators and contracts administrators..
You're pricing a tender and you need a number you can stand behind, with the optional items priced as options, not hidden. We'll assist you in your tender and stay honest to the price when the job comes through...
Specialist projects..
Odd geometry, deep excavations and access that a standard perimeter layout doesn't solve...
Scope of works
- Perimeter scaffold and full facade access
- Loading bays and material handling platforms
- Compliant stair access and internal access towers
- Edge protection to slabs, voids and perimeters
- Staged scaffold tied to the build program, not dumped in one hit
- Handover documentation and 30-day inspections for the life of the job..
Safety & Compliance
At Horizon Scaffolding Group, we take a project-specific approach to safety, recognising that every site presents its own unique risks and requirements. We analyse the full scope of works to identify opportunities to strengthen our approach to safety and continuously improve our practices, ensuring we never become complacent.
For every project, we develop job-specific Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), assess whether additional training or competency requirements are necessary, and consider what we can do from a scaffolding perspective to further improve the safety and efficiency of the site for everyone working around us.
The systems we run
Most builders want to know what's going up before they sign anything, so here it is plainly. We run kwikstage and ringlock. Kwikstage is the workhorse for straight perimeter runs on apartment and unit work: fast to erect, cheap per square metre, and every scaffolder in Queensland knows it. Ringlock earns its keep where the geometry stops being square, on curved facades, odd bays, heavy-duty and engineered work, allowing a dynamic approach to the requirement.
Most commercial jobs end up running both. We'll tell you which one you're getting and why, and we won't quote you ringlock rates for a job kwikstage does perfectly well.
What we scope that others miss
Truck and crane access, worked out before the slab goes down..
Once the slab's poured and the site sheds are in, the access you needed is gone. We look at where the truck lands and where the crane sits at tender stage, because moving 40 tonnes of gear twice is a cost somebody wears...
Power lines and the clearance application..
Overhead lines near a street frontage mean an exclusion zone, insulated hoarding and sometimes an application to Energex to shut down with a hefty lead time. It's the single most common thing we see missed at tender. We flag it up front and price the option, so the date doesn't move...
Council permits and footpath closures..
A scaffold over a footpath needs a permit, and Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Noosa Shire don't run the same process or the same timeline. We work out which one applies to your address and put the lead time in the program rather than discovering it the week before...
Pedestrian management on a street frontage..
Hoarding, gantries, overhead protection and a managed walkway are all separate items and they all cost money. If your job fronts a footpath, we can offer you the most efficient and cost effective solution to suit your project...
Staging the scaffold for the trades that follow..
The scaffold that suits the structure often doesn't suit the renderers, the painters or the window crew. We ask who's coming after you and stage it so it's struck once, not modified four times. This is where most of the variations on a commercial job actually come from...
What you get at tender
We price commercial work off the drawings, marked up in Bluebeam so you can see exactly what we've measured and what we've assumed.
You get one fixed number for the scope, and the optional items priced separately underneath it. Power line clearance, pedestrian gantries, extra bays for the finishing trades: all of it visible, all of it your call.
That's the whole point. The number holds because the thinking happened before you signed, not after. Full detail on how we get there: how we quote.

What clients say
Ben and his team have been our go-to scaffolders for some time. Super easy to deal with, no fuss, no hands out. Just in and out.
Steve, SCR Roofing, Director We had Horizon come on board after having a nightmare with another scaffolding mob. Night and day difference in their whole approach. The scaffold is always immaculate, great comms, quick turnarounds. We won't use anyone else.

Questions
Common questions
Can you price from drawings alone?
Yes, and for tender work that's usually how it starts. We mark the drawings up in Bluebeam and send back the take-off with the assumptions listed. For anything with tricky access or an existing structure we'll want to walk the site before the price is final, and we'll tell you which one you've got.
How do you handle program changes?
Programs move. We'd rather re-stage the scaffold than pretend they don't. What we ask is that you tell us early, because a fortnight's notice is a re-book and a day's notice is a crew standing around. Hire keeps running while the scaffold's up, and inspections continue at least every 30 days.
What documentation comes at handover?
Written confirmation from a competent person that construction is complete, before anyone uses it, as required under WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld) s225(2). Then inspection records before use, after any alteration or incident, and at least every 30 days under s225(3). You also get the SWMS and the licence details for the crew on site.
Do you do the edge protection as well?
Yes, and on commercial work it's usually part of the same package. Perimeter edge protection to slabs and voids gets scoped with the scaffold, so there's no gap between two subcontractors arguing about whose scope the void was in.
How far up can you go?..
Standard perimeter scaffold handles most apartment and unit work on the Coast. Past that, or where there's no ground to build from, it becomes engineered work: cantilevered, hung or suspended. Same crew, different licence class. See engineered and specialist access...
